Here are a few of our latest discoveries that we’d like to share with you.
Mas Amiel Altitude 433
A crazy-delicious wine! Mas Amiel is legendary in Languedoc--this is one of their biodynamic, tiny-production cuvées, 50% Grenache and 50% of the local Lladoner Pelut from “gnarly-ass bush vines” (aka old and flavorful). No one's heard of it, but it's related to Grenache and gives this light-n-lively red a heady cologne that lasts forever. Medium body, light tannin.
Fekete Bela Harslevelu
Harslevelu is one of the grapes used in Tokaji, but this one is grown to the west in Somlo, on an extinct volcano. It has an almost creamy nose, surprisingly full body and medium-high acidity. More earthy than fruity, it is fresh, with light pear flavors.
A Vita Ciro Rosso
For anyone who loves Aglianico, or even a rustic Nebbiolo, this will make you very happy! It's from Calabria, made from organic Gaglioppo grapes. Like Aglianico, it's quite "grippy," meaning plentiful tannins, and it delivers more earthy notes than fruity, including forest floor and wild rose aromas, red miso and lightly meaty flavors. A food wine, for sure!
Château Mercian Yamanashi Koshu
A treat for lovers of Japanese cuisine! Koshu is Japan's white grape for fine wine making. The wine is very delicate: very light bodied with medium-high acidity and flavors of minerals, green plum, and lemon, and a lasting mineral finish. Think of Muscadet, but lighter. It's a sake-lover's wine. Perfect for tempura, sashimi.
Grattamacco L'Alberello
Grattamacco was the 2nd Super Tuscan to be produced, back in the 70s, after Sassicaia. 70% Cab, 25% Cab Franc, 5% Petit Verdot. Intense blackberry/plum aromas, almost-full body with notes of black fruit, black currant pastilles, black tea and an earthy finish. Ready to drink now—wait for how it changes in the glass!
